The Topic chosen for this semester will based on Separation of Church and State. The reason this topic was chosen was in part due to the fact that I am part of the clergy in the city of El Paso and as a Bishop I have churches in different countries that do not have the privilege of having such separation in between the two. This topic is fascinating and necessary specially now since there is a lot of change going on in all spectrum in society and Religion or Church which key part in our society.
The other reason why this topic was chosen is because the separation between church and state is something that has been misinterpreted or misunderstood for a while by both parties (the church and the state) which has been the cause of confusion in regards of the role of the church in specific scenarios like times of crisis, political standpoints or views and what is the role of the state on the same or particular situations. As a community, it is imperative that the unique roles and responsibilities of this two organizations that have a place among the society and both of them are key tools when it comes to cultural, moral and emotional well-being of the people they represent.
To conclude, it is the goal of the research of this topic to elaborate in a more simplified yet articulate presentation to explain, evaluate and express the differences, similarities, roles and place in society and the communities in general that makes this two organizations unique and therefore, the necessity of why the “Separation of Church and State” should remain as it is and what are the laws and regulations that guide such concept.
Writing about this Global Issue gave me a better understanding and a broader point of view when it comes to this controversial topic. It also helped me on how to write more academically as well as how to elaborate a proper thesis with bullet points to sustain the argument as well as do proper research. I hope in the near future to be able to write more academic pieces and articles for all types of audiences.
