The Rhetorical Analysis was based on my research in regards of the separation of church and state, and in this case, I chose to make a visual analysis on the matter. By being able to expose myself to the ethos, pathos and logos, I was able to gain a better understanding not only on the message being conveyed but also, was able to incorporate accurate writing skills that allow me to articulate the message and the assignment given. I was able to understand how to properly know my audience, the purpose and the methodology needed utilizing the proper tools in order to be able to do the rhetorical analysis. At first, it was somewhat difficult to do the analysis due to the fact that, in my case, as a preacher people do not tend to analyze the sermon’s outline or the composition. Sermons in the church are often analyzed not in an empirical way, but as a matter of conscience or beliefs. In other words, it may sound wrong to say; people will believe what is preached from the pulpit without questioning (most of the time) and that will allow the speaker
not to be held accountable in regards of how he writes or expresses the message being brought. After doing this rhetorical analysis, I understood more clearly the importance of doing research as well as utilizing the proper tools given when it comes to writing.
Ethos helped me to objectively and ethically speak of the subject being exposed. Pathos gave me a sense of audience and how to articulate and express my passion or emotion in regards of the subject. Logos helped me to find the logical part on how to establish the link between the audience and the message. After being introduced to these terms, I was able to have the structure and proper tools to elaborate a better foundation for my research. I feel a little more confident that before when having to write even though I am aware I still have long ways to go. By being able to compose a rhetorical analysis not only was I able to work on different sources and research as a “writer”, but also made me see the different takes as someone with interest in the article as well. It helped me to understand both perspectives as a writer and a reader and gave me an idea of the possible approaches it might have depending on audience and other factors.
I still have challenges in regards of writing due to the fact that I tend to brainstorm a lot but the writing process has helped me immensely in all areas of my vocation. It is my hope that I was able to meet or improve on the writing criteria not only on my assignment but in general so the message can be conveyed properly. In all honesty, This assignments and course has awaken in me a passion for reading more and even so writing and it is my goal to be able to increase in the knowledge and tools to be able in the future to write books and articles in a more efficient way and for a more diverse audience.
